Orbit Browser: a browser for people who build websites, and for everyone who does not want to be watched while doing it.

Orbit Browser: a browser for people who build websites, and for everyone who does not want to be watched while doing it.

A handful of browsers share the market, and several of them are backed by an advertising business. Browsers count, report and remember more than most people suspect, and anyone who builds web products kits out their tools with extensions that in turn read along. So Orbit builds its own: a desktop application for Windows with everything developers need built in, and with a rule set down in the privacy policy: no telemetry, no crash reports, no usage data, every sentence verifiable in the source code. On Linux the same software runs without a window, as the counterpart for Orbit's agent, which opens, checks and comments on pages in it.

Inspector, Console and Network per tab • Highlighting directly on the page • Screenshots and password vault • The shield against recognition • About 70 tracking parameters removed • Deletion requests to data brokers • The same building blocks as Station • Its own engine based on Blink

Everything built in, nothing reported

Anyone who builds web products needs more than an address bar: the DOM tree, the rules that actually apply, console, network and load times, and a way to mark what is wrong directly on the page. The Orbit Browser has all of this built in, for each tab individually, plus screenshots and a password vault. No third-party extension reading along, and no report phoning home.

One layout, three devices

Pages can be displayed at any width or three at a time side by side, for phone, tablet and desktop, to check a layout at a glance. Since April 2026 every tab runs as a real webview, and since 24 April the browser and Station have shared the same libraries for interface, chat, calls, icons and translations. Whatever improves in one application improves in the other at the same time.

The shield

Every tab carries the shield. Measurements that websites use to recognise a browser are subtly randomised per origin, there are no third-party cookies, and at every hop of a redirect the browser strips about 70 known tracking parameters such as utm_ or fbclid. Signed-in users get separate profiles, a proxy chain with Tor and WireGuard, and deletion requests to 18 data brokers; for the three Swiss ones among them, a request under the Data Protection Act is drawn up. Privacy as the default, not as a setting.

One engine for everything

Alongside it grows the engine that is one day to run all of Orbit's interfaces, starting with the browser. It is based on Blink, the core of Chromium, and is controlled through its own lean embedding layer written in Rust. By the end of May 2026 it loads content, paints and accepts input, a test layout renders exactly as wide as in Chrome, down to the pixel, and in June it shows a real Orbit widget for the first time. Owning the engine means deciding what it knows about its users.

The first place for every new page

The Orbit Browser is in development. It runs on Windows and, without a window, on Linux; Orbit installs it itself, it cannot yet be downloaded publicly, and there is still some way to go before it runs on its own engine. Yet it is already what it was built to be: the first place where every new Orbit page is opened, long before anyone else sees it.

Was ein Envoy tut.
